Job Overview

Over the years, IOM has expanded and affirmed its role as the leading Organization assisting the Government of Pakistan to ensure humane and orderly movement of people by devising practical solutions to shifting dynamics of migration, protecting, assisting and supporting vulnerable migrant populations, promoting international cooperation on migration issues and serving as a key source of advice on migration data, research and policy development.

In the area of data, research and policy development, IOM has been specifically supporting Government of Pakistan in providing data and information that yet to be collected by the Government such as outflow of undocumented Afghan Migrants. While continuing it supports, IOM also identified the needs of migration baseline data that will be align and support the monitoring progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. To fill the identified gaps, IOM will implement other study/research activities by utilizing Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) tool under Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (REMAP) project.

Database that that IOM as well as data collection tools need to be maintained effort. To support mentioned needs, IOM will engage Database Assistant to enhance data quality and data management by maintaining and recreating database specific data collection activity. Under direct supervision of Project Officer (DTM REMAP), in close coordination with DTM REMAP Support Team and under overall supervision of Senior Project Manager, the Database Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing current database structure, and re-construct new database system as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring integrated processes/database use and provide assistance to overcome difficulties related to the data, such as access to clean data.
  • Monitor and maintain back-end system that correlate to end-user interfaces.
  • Assist in preparation of documentation for business requirement and training materials related to data collection, storage and maintenance.
  • Support developing and implementing proper backup, restore, data validation, and security procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Support designing and developing DTM forms, using KOBO Toolbox and participate in the revision of DTM data collection, data cleaning and data analysis tools
  • Assist in data cleaning and analysis by ensuring data consistency and provide statistical summary of the data.
  • Support verification of the information and accuracy of the data in the system and ensure that reported figures are the same as the once stored in the system.
  • Support and enforce data confidentiality guidelines to protect sensitive data.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION:

  • University degree in Information Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or related field from an accredited academic institution with 3 years of relevant professional experience, or;
  • A secondary school diploma from an accredited educational institution in the subject of Information Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Geographic Information System with 5 years of relevant experiences.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Having relevant experience in developing web-database and backup system for data storage;
  • Experience in designing data collection forms and its databases (preferably Kobo Toolbox);
  • Experience in GIS or Spatial visualization is an advantage;
  • Experience working with UN or International Organization especially in area of human mobility is an advantage.

SKILLS:

  • Good command of English language speaking and writing skills.
  • Computer literacy on Information Management works starting from development of digital data collection tools, data management, and information production.
  • Ability to consolidate, clean up and analyse diverse data, especially related to human mobility.
  • Able to use one of the following programming languages for database and back-end system such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, Java, Phyton and R.
  • Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability of multitasking and working independently.

LANGUAGES:

Required:

  • Good command of English and Fluent in Urdu are required (oral and written).

Advantageous:

  • Working knowledge of other IOM international official languages (Spain, France and Arabic) and other local languages in Pakistan (Pashto, Punjabi, Balochi, etc).
